departure

The two images below, really have little to do with one another, other than the fact that they're my last two photos from my one day trip to Chicago. I didn't plan on them being the last, but then again, the poses make them appropriately paired. I decided to capture what turned out to be two different fashion views and therefore varying views toward the day at hand. The top photo shows a more "on-the-go mom" look that is versatile and weather appropriate yet all the same subtlely style concious. The bottom look (minus the bad fit of the shorts) shows a more "glamed" up look. Personally, I wouldn't dream of shopping in heels. The color palette is what caught my eye here.

As for my own life, I await departure back to Savannah and back to school life. I leave in 6 days and find myself rushing to do a million little things until then. I'm filled with the same anxious feeling I had as a grade school student the night before a field trip. I'm so exited for the upcoming year! Hurricanes threaten my move in day, but God willing, things will go well. I hope to find myself with a repaired (or new) camera within a few weeks and snapping photos of Savannah's most creatively dressed! Until then!

Summer in the City

Today's post title is inspired by my longing to get back to the city. The pastoral setting of my current location was, and has been lovely, but I'm ready for the fast pace life and energy of the metropolitan landscape.
The photo, likewise, inspired the same longing. There is a sort of sweetness about the photo--with the violet mini dress, ice cream, and ballet flats. The girls are moving, but showing the breezy and easy feeling of the summer months. They show a sort of sweetness that comes only from simplicity.
In a few weeks, I too will be enjoying the summer in the city--the last seconds of it at least. I have hopes that it will evokes the same sort of sweetness.

DIY minimalisim

What snatched my attention to this look was the simple ensemble and homemade vibe. A cut-and-sew t-shirt dress with a self-made shoulder bag slung over the shoulder matched with a barely there sandal and effortless stance makes exploring the city in the summer a breeze.
I also like the similar vibe of the girl with blond hair and the pop of her colorful sandal and red sunglasses.

Black and Blue

I can't tell you how much I adore the simplicity in a "just perfect" look like this one. You can't see much of the little blue patent belt and the safari style utility pockets, but those subtle little accents (paired with killer shoes) make this look!
This ensemble reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:
"Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple,
awesomely simple, that's creativity." --Charles Mingus

Cut and Paste: Paper Dress in Chicago

While window shopping in a mall on Michigan Avenue, I spotted this dress in the display window of the Papyrus paper store. It's adorable and made of paper!
I found a similar eco-friendly take at http://www.treehugger.com/files/2004/10/paper_wedding_d.php.
The throwback paper dress idea from the '60s is trying to reemerge in the form of the wedding gown. A dress that gets worn just once could become an equally stylish and environmentally concious item! Who knows!? At least, I now know what to do with all my junk mail and old school papers!

Picking Flowers

Brightly colored sundresses paired with a simple sandal are the easiest, most comfy way to dress this summer. It was a relatively hot day in Chicago this day, so this look reflected and fit the weather parfait! She makes it look like a walk in the park.

Summer Fashion is a Picnic!

I took a day trip into Chicago with some friends this past weekend. I spotted this picnic perfect gal in Millennium Park. I found a few more fashion forward peps, so for the next few days I'll post my findings!
