Granny and Gramps, can I borrow a thing or two?

Today's look is inspired by dressing in clothes that look like they came fresh out of the grand 'rents closet. The skirt adds a little twist.
And to get back on track with things, I'm posting a sketch of a collection I'm currently working on. It's for the "Duck and Cover" collection moodboard from a post awhile back.

Coming up this week I'll have summer playlist 2 post, something I've *gasp* sewn, and more sketches.
Hope every one's summer is marvelous!

keep the change

Totally scored this adorable beaded bag for 50 cents at a yard sale today, thanks to my mom! I have an obsession with little vintage purses, so this excited me so much when I came home from work!

Man, it's dark.

My roomies and I participated in Earth Hour yesterday. From 8:30pm-9:30pm, no lights. We used candles (shush, keep that on the d.l.--it's against dorm rules!) and flashlights and just chillaxed for an hour. A much needed break I was forced to take. Can't say I'm disappointed. =)
Today's post is an outfit post (yeah, I thought its been awhile). I used "special lighting" aka a flashlight during Earth Hour. I decided to dress a little boyish yesterday. I found a feature in Nylon's April 2009 anniversary issue that was a tribute to dressing like a man (this was after I dressed myself for the day). I like the idea of wearing menswear pieces and not adding the super girly touches like lace and bows. Its like saying your so sure of your feminity it wonuldn't matter if you were wearing a men's three piece suit--you're still a super sexy lady! Instead of the "makin' sure you know I'm a chick" accessorizing, I think bringing feminity by a) being a girl (yeah, duh, I know...) b) female tailoring details like princess seams and darts c) subtly girly jewelry--keeping it tres simple.

Ensemble break down: Sweater from Old Navy, Mens Vest from Clothing Warehouse on Broughton St. in Sav town, Belt from A Perfect Find Consignment in Shelby, NC, Mens Pants from Goodwill, Necklace a gift from the 'rents, Sandals (not shown) from Target, Flashlight from Target too =) !

Nifty Thrifty

I spent my spring break at home last week. I was determined to get some RR and catch up on a few things that were pushed to the back burner during the quarter. Well, thrifting was a part of my "relaxation" agenda, I suppose. I decided to hit up one of my fav local consignment shops and two local Goodwills. I found a lot of great things (i.e. that Dior jacket I mentioned!). It wasn't until my last afternoon home that I was driving downtown and found a hidden treasure. It's a new consignment store that opened in September called "Celebrity Consignment." I was in total shock when I walked in to find awesome designer duds...in my little hometown! Seriously, we don't have places like this is Shelby! I scouted out the place and came out with a cute embroidered dress.
The owner told me about a special rack of clothes at the front. The clothes were from the singer/rapper Estelle and fresh in from London. A few H&M and Topshop garments were mixed in with custom things and designer pieces. The clothes are going to be apart of a fashion show this weekend (which sadly I'm missing). I took a few photos of the boutique to share with you below:
The photo is the owner's aunt, a former model.

Because some of the garments are from celebrities, I found some performance worthy pieces (sequins, cropped tops, etc.). There were also lots of great suits and daywear pieces from designers like Armani, Chloe, and Missoni.

The setting was tres classy!
