I have no desire to enter the realm of bridal design, but bridal is still fashion and I can't resist a tasty, cutting-edge new look:

An image I found in an issue of Flaunt magazine. When I saw this I instantly thought of mini-blinds. A dress made from blinds? I might just have to try that.

Taking my time

I've discovered recently (this evening) the wonders of Tumblr (a little behind the times, eh?) No worries, I shall remain a "Blogger" blogger but a tumblelog is just too darn fun to pass up. It's great for posting just about anything. It's quick and easy to post text, photos, quotes, links, etc. Something else to waste my time I suppose. I mean, twitter, this, facebook, and other random fashion sites and blogs just weren't enough. =)

She'll be comin' round the mountain

Yesterday, my mum and I took a lovely day trip into Asheville. If you're every in NC, I must recommend venturing into the mountains to visit the city! It has so many great, random places. The town is very artistic. So many great little shops, restaurants, and museums!

We started the day off at an organic Southern cuisine restaurant called Early Girl Eatery. Delicious.

My leftovers rode home in a cute little recycled cardboard box.

We stopped at True Confections for a sweet end to our lunch. Mango sorbet and caramel cheesecake. Um, yes, please!
Lexington Ave. is the place to go! So many unique clothing,art, vintage, book, and music shops. We found a fun photo opp at this old fashioned iron sculpture.

We ended the day by seeing Away We Go at The Carolina theatre. A great experience and an excellent movie. Highly recommend viewing it! I didn't make out with any sartorial finds, but I didn't come home empty handed. Art supplies and a Metro Pop magazine along with a few birthday gifts for some friends were my catches of the day.

Overdue fines: I've been a bad blogger

Please forgive my forgotten promises of posts past. I promised a post of my thrifted Dior jacket back in April! I also mentioned an online store I really wanted to share. So, no lies, I'm doing both right now!

Below are photos of my Dior jacket. I fell for the military influences and the "I-got-lucky" fit. Forgive the silly pose at the bottom. This was a photoshoot and my roomies and I were trying to be creative.

The Sunday Brunch Dress shop is a fresh new spin on shopping. It's specifically dresses and even more precisely, adorable, one-of-a-kind dresses. I think the owner captured just what she's selling with this snip-it from the about page:

"Dresses are like that. No matter how elegant, how timeless, a dress still billows in breezes and swishes in doorways, is always a little different with each wearing and on each person. We don’t dress up to be like someone else, we dress up to be ourselves."

Something else about the shop that I adore is its monthly spotlighting of artists. Each month a new female artist is featured with a bio and images of their work. See all the fabulous illustration work under "Gallery."

The site is so cute and easy to navigate, and the descriptions are witty and informative They go the extra mile to inform you have what you're getting from color to fit. They use "Chuck" (the imaginary shopper) as a gauge of how the dresses fit. And I almost forgot to mention that shipping is FREE! You must visit!

Summer Project 1

While shopping with some of my roommates, I found a really cute dress. One of those dresses that one thinks, "this is so me! it's too adorable to pass up. I must have it!" Then, the fitting room happened. The cut just wasn't for me. So, I decided to snap a photo and use the dress as inspiration for a maxi dress I will (oh yes, I WILL!) complete by summer's end. Hopefully, it'll be finished before then so I can actually wear it, but I want to give myself plenty of time so that it doesn't end up in the "I'll finish that later when I have mad sewing skills" pile. I want to

a) lengthen it to a maxi length

b) find similar fabric: cotton under dress with lace overlay and

c) maybe even do an ombre dye.

Fancy that: night @ the strings concert

My roommates, a couple of friends, and I got intellectual last night by attending a string quartet concert. This required a little extra "snazziness" than our usually college ensembles (we were nearly the youngest folks in the audience--we couldn't stick out too much).

I wanted to look extra classy for my fellow string musicians, so added a few extra "notes" to my new LBD:
